Most restaurants have experienced them and most bars have them. The presence of fruit flies (also known as small flies) within your facility detracts from the ambiance and overall customer experience that you strive for.
Fruit flies breed in decaying organic matter of food & moisture hidden in cracks and crevices which can be as small as watermelon seed. Once established, small flies can breed very quickly as the female will lay up to 100 eggs per day and over a thousand in her lifetime. The Red Eyed Fruit Fly (pictured above) and the Dark Eyed Fruit Fly breeding within your facility can discourage customers and lead to failed health department inspections.
An experienced Certech pest prevention specialist can locate and facilitate breeding matter removal as well as, apply targeted insect growth regulator treatments to ensure that life cycles are broken.
Ants are responsible for countless dollars in damage to food stuffs each year. Ants can nest indoors inside wall voids, under concrete slabs or outdoors in landscape/ trees.
Ants often invade structures in search of food and water and to escape unfavorable weather conditions. Trailing ants from garbage areas into your kitchen have the potential of transferring bacteria to food products and food contact areas.
Locally in the Bay Area, we typically encounter two types of small black ants known as Argentine Ants and Odorous House Ants. Certech’s proven multi-step service protocols ensure ant elimination and year-round prevention.
Cockroaches (aka roaches) are considered a critical pest, meaning that just one sighting of a cockroach can send negative impact messages throughout social media and regulatory agencies causing irreversible brand damage and significant financial losses.
Cockroaches are prolific breeders. When cockroaches are introduced into a facility, one breeding pair can produce a few thousand offspring within just a few weeks. Additionally, cockroaches carry harmful bacteria which can jeopardize the integrity of your products compromising the safety of your guests and your staff.
American Cockroaches (Periplaneta americana) live and breed within sewer systems and venture out on city sidewalks during the night. These cockroaches are commonly found in downtown areas of Oakland, San Francisco, and San Jose. American roaches are up to two inches in length and are a golden brown color with long antennae.
In the Bay Area, we often encounter German Cockroaches (Blattella germanica) with new clients. German Cockroaches prefer warm/ moist environments, electronics, and infest food service areas. These cockroaches are prolific breeders and can quickly spiral out of control without a comprehensive prevention program in place.
Oriental Cockroaches aka Water Bugs (Blatta orientalis) are commonly found around inland areas living and breeding under concrete slabs and in exterior landscape areas. These cockroaches are more of a nuisance than of a threat as they wander into facilities through door cracks and crevices in concrete foundations. Oriental Cockroaches are commonly found in landscaped areas in East Contra Costa County, East Alameda County and throughout Santa Clara County. These roaches are one and one-half inches in length and are mahogany in color and sometimes black.
Seasonal nuisance pests such as spiders, silverfish, wasps, crickets, earwigs and fleas can send the wrong message to your guests, lead to contamination of products, and pose human health hazards.
Your Certech specialist will customize a prevention plan to ensure that your facility remains free from these nagging pests.
One House Mouse (Mus musculus) within your facility can cause critical damage. Mice carry harmful pathogens and can transmit disease through their droppings, feet, fur, and urine. Mice can enter your facility through crevices as small as one-quarter of an inch in search of food, water and shelter.
Mouse infestations can escalate quickly as they reproduce rapidly causing great damage to your facility within a short amount of time. One sighting of a mouse by a guest could lead to a regulatory nightmare for you and your staff.
Rats are likely the greatest pest that negatively impacts mankind. Rats damage equipment, electrical wires, and landscape by gnawing and burrowing. Rats contaminate significant amounts of food worldwide spreading harmful disease and bacteria. Rats can enter through gaps as small as one-half of an inch.
In the Bay Area, we encounter Roof Rats (Rattus rattus) and Norway Rats (Rattus norvegicus). Roof Rats are excellent climbers and are acrobatic, swinging from trees onto your rooftop in search of an opening to enter—they can chew their way into your facility within a matter of hours. Norway Rat populations live near waterways and canals, burrowing the earth that surrounds and can invade your facility through plumbing and structural gaps close to ground level in search of food.
Your Certech pest prevention specialist understands rat behavior, will identify rodent access points, provide proactive recommendations for exclusion, and develop a comprehensive plan of action to ensure quick resolution. Our approach to rat management is through exclusion and trapping; use of rodenticides is not our first choice. Our commitment to you is a future free from rodents in and around your property.
Filth Flies are more than a pesky nuisance—they pose harm to your employees, customers, patients, and guests. Filth Flies (aka Large Flies) are vectors of disease and spread bacteria such as Salmonella, Shigella, Cholera, Gastroenteritis, and Dysentery.
